Muscle strain

If you experience back pain now and then , it could be an irritant stemming from a muscle strain, in which case take normal breaks for a while. If the discomfort doesn’t retire, call your health care provider to discuss your symptoms.

An unexpected, intense new onset of lower back pain will require prompt medical attention if accompanied by fever, sudden or worsening weakness, regression of your urinary frequency or bowel movements, or numbness in your groin or anal area. These symptoms may signal serious illness or injury.

If you have chronic difficulty with your back, gradually stretching it on a regular basis will prove to be the most helpful. Whether or not you stretch a few times a week, or consistently, doing so every day will help you to fend off future occurrences of the issue. Stretching the entire body a few times before proceeding will help you to prime your muscles.

This builds up the potency of your skeletal muscles so they will have the performance they need to respond. After, make stretching your trunk, shoulders, back, abdomen, buttocks, and legs your top priority. Ease your way into it, starting up gradually.

“Don’t hold a stretch longer than 30 seconds, and don’t bounce,” Ruggeri says. “Every few days, increase the length of the stretch until you can hold it for a minute.”

Stop stretching if your pain gets worse during a stretch.

And don’t start stretching on your own if you have a diagnosed back problem such as severe spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal), leaking or worn-out discs, or severe lower back arthritis. In that case, a physical therapist will need to assess your ability and tailor a stretching program for your needs.

To keep your vertebrae healthy, you ll have to make sure to extend your torso, and also do the types of workout that require your heart and lungs to operate, such as brisk walking for 150 minutes each week.
